Green Smoothies
Given so many people are now enjoying yummy green smoothies as part of their diet, we thought we would share one of our favourite and simple recipes with you.
For those that haven’t tried green smoothies yet, here is a really simple formula to follow (serves 2)
2 cups leafy greens(think spinach, kale, dandelion greens) if you are new to smoothies, stick to spinach as it is not as strong tasting as many of the others and blends up quite well).
|
+ | 2 cups liquid
(water, coconut water, coconut milk, almond milk)
|
+ | 2-3 cups ripe fruit
(banana, mango, raspberry, avocado, pear, apple, pineapple, grapes)
|
Add some chia seeds, cocoa powder, flax seeds or protein powder for a higher fuelled drink and use at least one frozen fruit or ice to make it nice and cold. We keep our spinach in the freezer too!

Our favourite smoothie is really very simple but very very tasty
We use:
2 cups spinach blended in 2 cups liquid (use unsweetened almond milk or skim milk for a creamier taste)
Add a banana (frozen if possible)
A handful of mint leaves
4 tbsp protein powder (optional)
Flax seeds or chia seeds
Cup of ice (optional)
This will serve 2 so if you only want for one, fridge the rest or freeze or half the recipe
We love mint and discovered that adding it to our smoothies gave them a lovely refreshing lift (not to mention awesome breathe). But this little herb also packs an amazing health punch!
Mint can aid digestion and weight loss, sooth mild upset tummys, nausea and heachaches and can even help clear nose, throat and lung congestion! It is also great for asthmatics as well as seasonal allergy sufferers as it helps inhibit the release of antihistamines. Not only that but it is also a natural stimulant and can help give you a needed boost to fight depression and fatigue as well as memory loss. It has EVEN been found to have cancer fighting properties! Wow what a power herb!
So perhaps next time you try a green smoothie, throw a little mint in and see what you think! We would love to hear your green smoothie recipes too! Enjoy!
